Making Green card Filing Dates Current: A Bold Move on the Horizon
The September Visa Bulletin has been released, containing news of no movement in the dates, which has left many feeling underwhelmed. The lack of movement in employment-based categories has sparked conversations. Is this stagnation the new norm, or could we anticipate shifts in the upcoming October edition? We dissect the factors influencing this situation and offer insights into what might be on the horizon. As we await the next bulletin, hopes are high for a change that could potentially reshape the waiting game.
In a compelling twist, the idea of making the filing date chart current for employment-based applicants in October has taken center stage. The Biden Administration is under new pressure to execute this potential game-changing executive action. But how would this work? Is it a feasible endeavor? We dissect the mechanics and viability of this proposal. Drawing parallels with the past, particularly the 2007 episode when filing dates were made current, we explore the possible implications and outcomes. This move could indeed offer a respite, especially given the challenges faced by employment-based applicants in recent times.
Bipartisan letter to provide relief to high-skilled visa holders
Congressmen Krishnamoorthi (D-IL) and Bucshon (R-IN) led 56 of their colleagues in sending a letter to Secretary of State Blinken and DHS Secretary Mayorkas.
They request the administration to mark all dates for the filing of employment-based GC applications as “current” on the Visa Bulletin on October 1, 2023.
This would allow GC applicants to file regardless of their country-based priority date, and potentially make some eligible for work authorization and travel benefits.
They argue that this would ease the burden on legal immigrants who are stuck in the Green Card backlog and contribute to the U.S. economy and competitiveness.
They cite historical precedent from the Bush administration and the waste of available green cards in previous years.
#SettleWiseStance – If the Biden administration is able to issue an executive order to make all the priority dates current, it will herald a promising time for many individuals, particularly parents who relocated to the United States with children born outside of the USA. This move would offer them a sense of relief, eliminating the constant worry of their children aging out and jeopardizing their inclusion in the green card application. Furthermore, this measure would grant both the applicants and their entire families the freedom to work through the provision of Employment Authorization Documents (EAD) and the freedom to travel with Advance Parole (AP). Importantly, it would liberate them from the constraints of being tied to a single employer. The process of relocating would become significantly streamlined, requiring only filing a simple Form 485-J supplement application. And it’s completely free.
Perseid Meteor Shower's Mesmerizing Show.
Sometimes, the night sky treats us to extraordinary displays that fill our hearts with wonder. These remarkable occurrences might be unfamiliar in our home countries or even beyond our awareness. However, as immigrants residing in the United States, we are presented with a unique opportunity to witness and relish these astonishing phenomena that might have eluded us before.
One such captivating event is the Perseids meteor shower – a celestial spectacle where the stars seem to dance across the heavens. This enchanting phenomenon isn't accessible to everyone, and even in places where it is, we might not have had the chance to witness its magnificence firsthand. But now, we can!
Dr. Nick Moskovitz, an expert in planetary astronomy, affirms, "The Perseids rank among the finest meteor showers of the year. Seek out a location free from the glow of city lights. During its peak, you could potentially see up to 100 shooting stars in an hour." This calls for stepping outside into areas where urban lights are scarce and allowing ourselves to be captivated by the celestial display.
For us, immigrants, this meteor shower is akin to an invitation to explore the skies, fostering a connection with the cosmos that might have eluded us previously. It serves as a reminder that our time in the U.S. grants us access to experiences that might have been beyond our reach in our countries of origin – a truly remarkable privilege.
As we gather our families, friends, and loved ones to observe the Perseids meteor shower, let's take a moment to ponder the significance of this shared experience. While we each hail from diverse corners of the world, we are united under the same sky, admiring the same celestial wonder.
As we marvel at the Perseids meteor shower, let's also contemplate the beauty of our shared presence in the U.S., partaking in an event that reminds us of the endless possibilities that lie before us. This is our moment to fully embrace our surroundings, to engage in activities that once might have seemed unattainable. Let's cast our gaze skyward, dream big, and participate in a celestial performance that links us all in a cosmic kinship.
This year's peak is anticipated to grace the heavens around 04:00 Universal Time on Sunday, August 13. For those in various time zones across North America, the magic will unfold as follows:
12:00 a.m. EDT on Sunday, August 13.
11 p.m. CDT on Saturday, August 12.
10 p.m. MDT on Saturday, August 12.
9 p.m. MST/PDT on Saturday, August 12.
#SettleWiseStance – The Perseids meteor shower is more than just a luminous display in the firmament; it symbolizes the boundless opportunities that await us in our new home. It is an opportunity to join a global community that revels in gazing at the night sky, a joyous collective endeavor that transcends borders and backgrounds. So, let's embark on this celestial journey, whether individually or in the company of our dear ones, and create cherished memories that will forever twinkle in the tapestry of our immigrant experience. As it's visible in the early night, people on the West Coast have the opportunity to plan a potluck, gather friends and families for dinner, and enjoy the meteor shower together.

#WiserCraving Topic of this edition is How to handle the High Interest rate environment.
Riding the 5.5% Wave: Investing Wisely in High-Interest Opportunities.
The current interest rate environment, with rates hovering around 5.5% (chance of increasing up to 5.75% ~ 6.00%), has sparked a renewed sense of enthusiasm among savers and investors. This substantial uptick in interest rates has breathed new life into the realm of high-yield savings accounts, certificates of deposit (CDs), and various other saving avenues. Savers are finding these options increasingly attractive as they promise the potential for more significant returns compared to the relatively lower rates of recent times. High yield savings accounts are now offering a chance to accrue meaningful interest on cash deposits, while CDs with fixed, competitive interest rates provide a secure and predictable path for capital growth. As the allure of watching one's savings multiply gains momentum, individuals are capitalizing on the high-interest rate environment to fortify their financial futures.
Here are some ideas for you about saving and investing money in a high-interest rate environment:
Explore High-Yield Savings Accounts: In a high-interest rate environment, consider moving your savings into high-yield savings accounts. These accounts offer better interest rates than traditional savings accounts, allowing your money to grow faster over time.
Diversify Your Investment Portfolio: Take advantage of the current environment by diversifying your investment portfolio. Consider allocating funds to a mix of stocks, bonds, and other assets to spread risk and potentially increase returns.
Consider Certificates of Deposit (CDs): CDs are time-bound deposits with fixed interest rates. They offer a secure way to earn higher interest than regular savings accounts. Look for CDs with varying maturities to create a ladder that aligns with your financial goals.
Invest in Dividend Stocks: Dividend stocks pay you a portion of the company's earnings regularly. Look for well-established companies with a history of stable dividends. Reinvesting these dividends can lead to significant growth over time.
Maximize Retirement Contributions: Increase your contributions to retirement accounts like 401(k)s or IRAs. The higher interest rates can amplify the benefits of compounding, helping your retirement savings grow more quickly.
Consider High-Interest Bonds: Bonds, especially those with higher yields, can be a safe investment option in a high-interest rate environment. Research government and corporate bonds to find suitable options.
Educate Yourself: Take the time to educate yourself about different investment opportunities. Attend workshops, webinars, or consult with financial advisors to make informed decisions that align with your financial goals.
Emergency Fund Growth: A high-interest rate environment can also benefit your emergency fund. Consider placing a portion of your fund in accounts that yield higher interest while still allowing quick access to funds when needed.
#SettleWiseStance – Regularly Review and Adjust. Keep an eye on changing market conditions and adjust your investment strategy as needed. Regularly reviewing your portfolio ensures that you're making the most of the high-interest rate environment.
