Market: The bond market had a stellar month, with the best performance since 1985, driven by investor optimism and plunging yields. The 10-year US Treasury yield dipped below 4.3% for the first time since September. The S&P 500 and Dow also had their best months since July 2022 and October 2022, respectively. Mortgage rates dropped for the fifth consecutive week, reaching 7.22%. The positive market sentiment stems from the belief that the Fed may be nearing the end of its interest rate hike cycle. Economists are hopeful for a soft landing, avoiding a recession. The Fed's final meeting of the year will be held in December 12 & 13, and analysts will be closely scrutinizing JPow's remarks for clues about future rate decisions. USCIS Expands “myProgress” and Changes Filing Locations
In this newsletter, we're bringing latest updates from the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) that directly impacts the immigration landscape.
USCIS Expands “myProgress” to Form I-821 and Form I-485
myProgress offers applicants personalized estimates of their wait time for major milestones and actions on their case, including the final case decision. This move aligns with USCIS' commitment to supporting Executive Order 14058 on Transforming Federal Customer Experience and Service Delivery.
For those eligible, myProgress is accessible through the USCIS online account for various forms, including Form I-765, Form I-131, Form N-400, Form I-90, and Form I-130. While these estimates are based on historical patterns, they are not guarantees of timing and cannot consider all possible unique application processing factors.
In a bid to enhance customer experience and transparency in the adjudication process, USCIS has expanded myProgress (formerly known as personalized processing times) to Form I-821 (Application for Temporary Protected Status) and Form I-485 (Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status). This expansion will initially be available for family-based or Afghan special immigrant I-485 applicants.
To view your myProgress, applicants must create or log into their USCIS online account and select their pending application. If you've filed online or linked the applicable forms to your online account using an online access code, you'll see a dedicated myProgress tab for your application. This tab provides you with an estimated wait time until your case reaches a decision, accompanied by checkmarks indicating completed milestones.
Changes in Filing Location for Form I-907 With Form I-140
Effective November 13, USCIS is transitioning the filing location for Form I-907 (Request for Premium Processing), when filed with Form I-140 (Immigrant Petition for Alien Workers). The filing location for newly filed Forms I-140 submitted simultaneously with Form I-907 will shift from the USCIS service centers to the USCIS lockbox.
Please note that this change does not apply if you are filing Form I-907 for a currently pending Form I-140 or if you are filing Form I-140 with an associated application (such as Form I-765, Form I-131, or Form I-485). The USCIS may soon announce filing location changes for these forms.

#SettleWiseStance – We want to stress the paramount importance of being vigilant and actively engaged in your immigration process. While attorneys play a crucial role, it's essential not to solely rely on them for the accuracy of your documents. A minor error can lead to significant delays, causing undue stress and additional expenses.
We strongly advise that you conduct a thorough review of all your application documents before they are submitted. Don't hesitate to ask your attorney detailed questions beyond document content. Seek clarity on crucial aspects such as the USCIS center and address where your documents will be sent. Ensuring that your submission aligns with the latest address can prevent unnecessary rejections.
Furthermore, take advantage of USCIS's myProgress tool. Understand the next milestones in your application process and get estimates on how long they might take. Staying informed is key to a smoother immigration journey.
Settlewise is here to support you, and we encourage you to be actively involved in your immigration endeavors. Your understanding and engagement can make a substantial difference.
Charlie Munger's 5 Big Ideas for Success
Charlie Munger, the esteemed investor and vice-chairman of Berkshire Hathaway, passed away at the age of 99, leaving a legacy of profound wisdom and unwavering dedication to value investing. He was more than just a billionaire business partner to Warren Buffett; he was a multifaceted individual who defied conventional norms and achieved remarkable success in various fields. Their investment strategies, deeply rooted in value principles, consistently outperformed the market for over five decades.
Despite leaving school early to join the military, Munger's intellect and determination propelled him to Harvard Law School, where he excelled despite lacking an undergraduate degree. Bill Gates, a renowned figure in the world of technology, once remarked that Munger possessed the "broadest thinker" he had ever encountered, praising his ability to synthesize knowledge from diverse fields. His insatiable curiosity and ability to connect the dots across seemingly disparate fields were key ingredients to his success.
Here are five of his big ideas for success which we can take away:
Get what you deserve. Munger believed that the best way to get what you want is to deserve it. This means working hard, being honest, and always striving to improve yourself.
Avoid stupidity. Munger said that it is more important to avoid stupidity than to be brilliant. This means making sound decisions and avoiding impulsive mistakes.
Invert, always invert. Munger often used the technique of inversion to solve problems. This involves thinking about the problem in reverse and asking yourself what would cause the opposite outcome.
Think multi-threaded. Munger believed that it is important to be able to think about multiple things at the same time. This allows you to make more informed decisions and see the big picture.
Be patient. Munger was a patient investor who was willing to wait for the right opportunities. This allowed him to achieve great success in the long run.
#SettleWiseStance – These five big ideas from Charlie Munger are a valuable guide for anyone who wants to achieve success in life. By following his advice, you can increase your chances of achieving your goals and living a fulfilling life.
